When the first book came out I never thought I would read the books. To be honest I didn’t start reading the books until the third book was published. I received the first three books as a Christmas gift from my dad and that also sparked my love of reading. I cruised through the first three books in the matter of a week and I became obsessed, I started looking on the internet for more information about the author and the books.
That is when I stumbled
across the world of forums. I realized that there was an entire community out
there involved in the world of Harry Potter. That community included: writers,
artists, and musicians. I was especially interested in the writing community. When
I started researching, I discovered websites completely devoted to fan fiction
writers. I started reading stories created by fans of the Harry Potter universe
and it just made me more excited to read the books.
When Warner Brothers
bought the rights to the Harry Potter franchise the entire community was
excited because it meant the dreams of these beloved books becoming movies was
going to become a reality. Every time a new title in the series was announced
the community was more and more excited by the prospect of diving back into the
universe that we loved.
The most interesting
day that I can remember was when the 7th book The Deathly Hallows was announced it was going to be the conclusion
to the series that we all loved and it was definitely bittersweet. On the plus
side it was a fantastic series and we were excited to see it be wrapped up, but
at the same time we were sad because it meant we were going to be closing a
chapter of our lives that had followed most of us for a significant portion of our
lives.
For me in particular
the Harry Potter series had started when I was 10 years old and it ended when I
was 20 that was a decade of my life. It still astounds me now that I think
about it. I mean I came across the actors that played Harry, Ron, and Hermione
and I grew along with them in a sense. It impacted my life in a big way, when I
was at my saddest I could turn to the world of Hogwarts to cheer me up and make
the day just that much better. Every now and then I look at my books and run my
fingers affectionately along the spines of those 7 treasured books and remember
a special part of my childhood.
Another part of Harry
Potter that I adored was trying to find parts of myself in the characters that
I loved. My favorite character was and still is Hermione Granger. I love her
intelligence, her bravery, her loyalty, and her inner strength. Plus she was
always proud of who she was regardless of what other people thought of her. I
like to think if I could embody some of her strength I can overcome anything.
Here’s a question for
you “If you could be part of any Hogwarts house, what house would you be in and
why?”
If I could choose my
house I think I would be in Slytherin. The reason is I think I am very
ambitious when I want to be and even though those who are in Slytherin get a
bad rap I think it is all a matter of perception. As a matter of fact I think
every person in one way or another is a little bit of every Hogwarts house.
